Coat Tails 02:56
You know you want to You know that you don't need to Yeah, no you don't need me Like I really need you Friend, it'd be a good thing We're all just trying To grow, yeah you were me once It's only right to be helping Hey I was wondering If you could give me a ride All the way to, oh all the way to the top I'll be grateful, oh I'll be grateful Self-punishment For all the burnt bridges As if things could worsen You’re hardly a person Instead, a culmination Of all you admire Your head’s missing pages And all who know you are tired Hey I was wondering If you could give me a ride All the way top, oh all the way to the top I’ll be grateful, oh I’ll be grateful Hey I was wondering If you could give me a ride All the way to, yeah all the way to the top Oh, I’ll be grateful, hey, listen here I don’t know what you are Are you right are you wrong You’re a ghost (We tried to play Sufjan) you’re a stranger (But I couldn’t get the chords right) When you talk down to your friends like that When you talk down to your friends like that I thought a lot about you Driving home from Urbana I, I didn’t know me As much as I should have for 19 We, all know the feeling When something will never be Again, something that’s over Again, something that’s over Again, something that’s over Hey I was wondering If you could give me a ride All the way to, oh all the way to the top I’ll be grateful, oh I’ll be grateful Hey I was wondering If you could give me a ride All the way to, yeah all the way to the top I was wondering if you could forgive me

Surer/Steady 04:29
Drunk off my ass I’m in the bathroom sobbing again With bloodshot eyes Hours have passed The party’s long been over now, It’s half past five and it’s bright outside It isn’t cool You’re in your twenties salting your wounds Out in plain view You play the fool A role you’ve held since middle school Except now you drink, And it’s all you do, you try to say I’m surer now, I’m surer now I’m surer now, I’m steady now I’m steady now, I’m steady now I’m steady now, I’m surer You pen your lines about Chicago day-to-day You run your mouth without having a thing to say Romanticize prestigious universities But you hold yourself as a hostage Out of harm’s way You’re in the corner taking it in He’s got his mouth on again Outrageous claims He’s speaking for you, acts like he knows you Use you as data Are you gonna fight him tonight I’m surer now, I’m surer now I’m surer now, I’m steady now I’m steady now, I’m steady now I’m steady now, I’m surer You pen your lines about Chicago day-to-day You run your mouth without having a thing to say Romanticize prestigious universities But you hold yourself as a hostage You never sleep, your bed’s in total disarray You’re up late for anything to celebrate You get by, you get by but you can’t stop Holding yourself as a hostage Drunk off your ass You’re in the front yard screaming again At this stranger’s house in this college town When you look like you’re eighteen but You’re way too old to be here, yeah you Act like you’re eighteen and There’s not much hope for next year, no no Yeah you look like you’re eighteen And you talk like you're eighteen Yeah you act like you're eighteen But you’re way too old to be here I’m surer now, I’m surer now I’m surer now, I’m steady now I’m steady now, I’m steady now I’m stable now

Leave It 03:45
I’m vulnerable You decided to latch When you’re part of the family It’s hard to detach I always feel sick When I’m driving through your town You stole a part of me but you still weigh me down I can’t say it out loud The whole world’s got its hand on my mouth, it says It’s over, so leave it, it’s over, so leave it Everyone that I know And the people I love Will never see me at what Would have been my best If experiences shape you I must be a shard of glass Sharp and incomplete I Hurt whoever crosses paths I can’t say it out loud The whole world’s got its hand on my mouth, it tells me It’s over, so leave it I’m just used to it now, everyone likes to keep it in the ground It’s over, so leave it, it’s over, so leave it We all know it happened, but it’s done now, so leave it I’m desensitized, I’m totally fine We used to be so close, I can’t picture that time But I still feel sick and I shrink when people yell I’m staring straight into the void whenever I stand still I can’t say it out loud The whole world’s got its hand on my mouth, it tells me It’s over, so leave it I’m just used to it now, everyone likes to keep it in the ground It’s over, so leave it, it’s over, so leave it We all know it happened, but it’s done now, so leave it It’s over, so leave it

Non-Transfer 04:20
I get in my car outside your apartment It’s 4 o’clock in the morning And I’m not tired, I just wish I didn’t Work the next day I drove from one moment to another Stuck in retail for 8 hours then to a coffee shop In a different town, where I met you for The first time And I suck, so I talked about myself too much but you stayed Long enough to hear something that you liked I’ve been dying a little less lately I didn’t think you could resuscitate me But now my mouth is completely plastered You said your lipstick was non-transfer I got so used to being a stepping stone Accustomed to running on empty Just a landmark on a freeway that’s amusing for 20 minutes But now I sit in this noisy food court On my lunch break, wishing I was still home with you You’re probably making food It’s only been an hour or two but you make me wanna fake an injury Just to come back home and watch some TV I’ve been dying a little less lately I didn’t think you could resuscitate me But now my mouth is completely plastered You said your lipstick was non-transfer You be my jacket and I’ll be your sunscreen I’m only reckless when I know you’ll save me I think I’d die if I fell any faster You said your lipstick was non-transfer (Stay over) I’m late to class again Cause there’s no windows in your room I promise I’ll be back soon I’ve been dying a little less lately I didn’t think you could resuscitate me But now my mouth is completely plastered You said your lipstick was non-transfer You be my jacket and I’ll be your sunscreen I’m only reckless when I know you’ll save me I think I’d die if I fell any faster You said your lipstick was non-transfer

"Equipment can only plan for so much. It was always in the cards to release All You Admire after Madrigal, the band’s second EP and first to ultimately grasp the validation it spent its time unpacking. If you told the band—guitarist/vocalist Nick Zander, drummer/vocalist Jake Pachasa, and bassist/vocalist Jacob Scott—that the road to their third would have their car sliding sideways on ice for thirty seconds, a forced detour to a doomed Days Inn in Scranton, and a lost day of vocal tracking, they’d probably overthink every mile of that drive. Since they emerged from that journey relatively unscathed, All You Admire obsesses over failures and fumbles that lead back to the band’s first live shows instead. It’s what they were planning to do for years.

To give depth and breadth to these dark shadows, Equipment linked up with Chris Teti (TWIABP, Barely Civil). The partnership created some of the band’s most lockstep power-pop (“Surer/Steady”) but also unleashed a new side of the group’s most primal influences. A song like “Leave It” wouldn’t exist in any other iteration of the band, no matter how you flipped around release dates. With its surging post-hardcore foundation and spoken-word elements, Teti’s myriad indie-rock past lives add dimension to Zander’s own history lessons. All You Admire attempts to apologize for early missteps, from a “diva” persona adopted on early runs (“Coat Tails”) to the project’s stunning lack of love songs (“Non-Transfer”).

Although Madrigal and All You Admire were written at the same time, All You Admire abandons the confetti and anthemic posture of past Equipment for something resembling tools for the next career path. Sometimes when you look back, you have the bearings to move forward. No more slip-ups." ~James Cassar
